Vintage fashion is one of my favorite styles outside of things that I hand make, and I absolutely adore "Adore Vintage". Adore Vintage is an online vintage boutique that sells some REALLY cute and chic vintage finds that include clothing, accessories, and even some great finds for your home! Rodellee, the owner of Adore Vintage, is just as beautiful as her treasures and I am stoked that she took the time to share a bit of her vintage inspiration with us!

Ok, here is Rodellee..I hope you enjoy! Oh, and be sure to check the boutique often because things are always changing, one day there may be a lot of things sold out, but the next day or week over, it can be filled with her fresh finds, so be on the lookout!

Style Gypsy: Why is creativity important to you?

Rodellee: I could not live without it of course! I create and express through my clothing, my dance, my day to day life. I think it is the most wonderful feeling to create something (an image, a photograph, a dress) and be able to share it with the world and have someone else just truly appreciate it. My creativity allows me to add color, meaning, and laughter in my life.

Style Gypsy: How would you describe your most creative spot/atmosphere?

Rodellee: My office is the most creative place for me. I am surrounded by beautiful dresses, quirky shoes, handbags... just all these wonderful things that make me smile. I also have a skylight in here so I can gaze up into the sky when I feel like clearing my head or search the clouds for inspiration.

Style Gypsy: Where were you in life when you decided to start your own boutique, and what things would you like to achieve in the future within your career and life?

Rodellee: My husband and I had just moved to Texas from Budapest and we were about to get married, so I had this surge of energy and invincibility, not to mention a rapidly growing vintage dress collection... I started selling on Ebay, but as a freelance webdesigner, I really wanted a look and feel for my shop to be completely customized. So I designed the first layout for Adorevintage (it was very pink and very girly) and within a couple months had opened my own online shop. I am still 100% involved in all of the design work for Adorevintage. In the future I would really love to see Adorevintage become the best online resource for vintage clothing and accessories for men and women and opening up an actual storefront.

Style Gypsy: Favorite Fashion magazines, books and T.V shows?

Rodellee: ZiNK has some of the best fashion editorials, so I always peruse for inspiration. I love ELLE for their "ELLE SHOPS" section and although I'm no longer a teen, Teen Vogue always has fun and playful fashion and a lot of ideas that are readily wearable. I don't watch much TV, but I do own every season of Sex and the City and Family Guy.

Style Gypsy: Top 3 Fashion/Beauty Boutiques or Designers?

Rodellee: Oh goodness...only three? My top favorite designers are Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Sui, and Marc by Marc Jacobs. I tend to favor different designers throughout the seasons depending on the collections.

Style Gypsy: Do you have any areas in your home that truly depict vintage style?

Rodellee: I do pick up a lot of vintage knick knacks here and there and they are scattered throughout my house. Generally if I like something I'll go ahead and purchase it because I have this mentality that "someday I'll find a use for it."

Style Gypsy: What are your top 3 marketing tips that you would give to an aspiring boutique owner who wants to focus on vintage fashion?

Rodellee:
1.] Get to know your field, educate yourself with the product
2.] Figure our your target market (who do you want shopping at your store, what kind of men and women are they? what do they like to do?)
3.] Be friendly, helpful, and genuine.

Style Gypsy: What are 5 things that you must have in your closet or purse?

Rodellee:
Closet: White tank top (infact I have multiples), a little black dress (I have a Holly Golightly inspired vintage 60s cocktail dress that I love love love!), black cigarette pants, comfortable but quirky ballet flats (I'm a sucker for ballet flats), and an oversized handbag.

Purse: Chapstick, cellphone, notepad & pen (I'm old fashioned, I write everything down), a book (you never know when you'll get stuck waiting for something), and a camera (for capturing life's beautiful and random moments)

Style Gypsy: Favorite vintage fashion era?

Rodellee: My favorite would be the late 60s and early 70s when clothing was just very flowing, colorful, and all about self expression. But there is something about every era that I love, the 20s for the gorgeous flapper dresses, the 30s for the old Hollywood glamour silhoutte, the 40s for the fitted feminine suits, the 50s for the voluminous skirts and dresses when women looked like walking flowers, the 60s for the adorable minis and the wide eyed look, the 70s for that BIBA look, and of course the 80s from off the shoulder dresses to wristbands. Every era had its own special something and I am ecstatic to be able to share the clothing from these time periods with the world and have them be appreciated and loved.

Style Gypsy: Do you have any beauty tips, products, or pampering regimens that you like to use/do to keep your beauty in its glow?

Rodellee: I love St. Ives products and its very inexpensive and has always worked with my skin. Other than the facial scrub and clay mask which I use twice a week, I wash with mild soap and water and moisturize with Ponds cream.

Style Gypsy: If you had to pick a song that represented your personality from a "vintage" time, what song would it be and why?

Rodellee: "After Hours" by Velvet Underground. The song is so simple, so innocent, and it has a good beat. Every time I hear it I feel like dancing around like Anna Karina in "Band of Outsiders". I also love absolutely LOVE "Moonriver" which was sung in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" written by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini in the early 60s. The song is heart wrenchingly beautiful.

Style Gypsy: Other than fashion, in what other ways do you express your creativity?

Rodellee: I draw, or mostly sketch... usually flowers, branches, and faces. I write poetry and short stories as well, but not as often as I used to. I also like to bake sweets and invent my own little recipes (my recent invention some sort of coconut, chocolate chip cookie bar concoction that remains nameless but received rave reviews from my husband and friends).

I absolutely love the energy that Costumier & full time Milliner Kim Brown-Dye puts into her vintage inspired hats. This video is very inspiring to me as I develop my niche in the crafty world, and I just love her workspace, which is set in a historical, 1915 brick building in the heart of Oakland Chinatown ! I think it would be awesome to have one of her creations to adorn the home with as a piece of art or even a print of the lovely and nostalgic photography that she uses to promote her pieces.

There is nothing more feminine than stepping out of a hot shower, slathering on your favorite scented lotions, perfumes, and oils, and slipping into something a bit more comfortable; and what better garment to slip on than these gorgeous pieces from Plum Pretty Sugar! I have always wanted to have a collection of comfortable and pretty sleepwear, but have yet to find the time...ahem...or money to buy a few pieces or to just sit down and make my own. When beauty meets talent, style, and a warm soul, what do you get? You get a super fabulous DJ fashionista known as "DJ Rashida". Some of you may know her as the stylish DJ for Prince, or as the DJ for the popular MTV show "America's Best Dance Crew", or maybe you are a regular at California's Temple Bar in which she spins regularly. However, I have been a big fan of Rashida well before she hit the scene, as I met her through a mutual friend while in high school. Not only is she mega talented as a DJ, but she TRULY is beautiful both inside and out. Her style is impeccable, and quite eclectic..the perfect chica to highlight here on Style Gypsy don't you think?

Style Gypsy: What do you love most about what you do and what things would you like to achieve in the future both in your career and life?

Laura: I love that I can create the world I want to live in. I love the
fluidity of how influence travels. I'd like to achieve a completely organic business with the lightest of footprints. I'd like an urban castle made of glass that is completely green:).

Style Gypsy: Most unique thing about you?

Laura: There are so many things about me that stand out. It would be easier to name areas where there is common ground with others. The most unique things are my ability to segue from one area of
interest to another, very seamlessly. And there are the things about
me which are contradictory - a person in a chic and elite industry who
is inclusive, considerate and without an ego attitude!

Style Gypsy: Products, accessories, gadgets, & things you never leave home without?

Laura: My phone, wallet and keys. usually also a sketch book and something to read.

Style Gypsy: Biggest achievement within your fashion career?

Laura: Being listed in fashion houses in le book. Having my work published in
a coffee table book about new talent in fashion design from fusion
publishing. Having runway shows at new york fashion
week and watching people enjoy wearing my clothes.

Jaime Mascaro: Ursula Collection {me love the shoe}

I'm back! As you can all figure out out, I have had baby girl! She was born on May 17th...exactly on her due date. Needless to say I have not exactly been in the fashionable mood (which explains my lack of blogging here) with the mama pouch that's left and the extra bloating. But I am ready to get back into shape and blogging here on Style Gypsy always gets me motivated to beautify my outer life! LOL.

Anyhow, moving along into fashion talk. Is it odd that I do not like/hate wearing heels yet I love the artistic/fashion value they hold? I find comfort in flats or short pumps, and even wedge heels, but there is something unnatural about wearing heels/stiletto style shoes. I am sure it would give me much needed height to my 4" 11" frame, but I just feel awkward in them. I dunno, but I can't help but to swoon all aver these pieces from the Ursula 2009 Collection of Mascaro (fyi:you may have to click on the Spanish version to see pics). I especially LOVE the gold pair with the peep toe that are at the top of the last photo...fabulous!

Say hello to the lovely Ev'Yan of Apricot Tea! Ev'Yan writes a fabulous blog which covers her fashion trends and life stories and inspirations. She carries such a comfortable, laid back, chic style, and we love it from head to toe! Her short crop goes oh so well with all of her ensembles and I think she takes some of the cutest pics(I wish I was that photogenic). Style Gypsy: What's your style?

Ev'Yan: My style is a bit hard for me to pinpoint, as it is always expanding. But I lean more towards things that are androgynous and minimalistic; I sometimes draw my inspiration from men’s styles. My style can be slightly feminine with a harder edge. I'm not very drawn to bold colors; I have a tendency to favor monochromatic looks with greys, blacks, & whites. If I do add color to my outfit, it's usually just a splash. I like to keep things simple. Regardless of what look I'm going for, I always have comfort in mind & try to be 100% genuine with my ensembles. To me, that is what's most important: looking effortlessly put together, as though you weren't even trying.

Style Gypsy: Favorite shops & boutiques?

Ev'Yan: I like to stay local: H&M, Cali, Forever21, American Apparel; I live in American Apparel shirts. I am a big fan of Target, too. I've found some of my most favorite pieces there. Most recently, a pair of drop crotch pants that I have been coveting for a long time, & they were under $20! I'm all about frugality. While I admit to indulging in splurges -- Ray Ban sunglasses, for example -- my whole look is usually made up of pieces that cost under $20. I like proving that it's more than possible to look smashing on a limited budget. You just have to know what to look for, while knowing what's best for your body. A lot of my clothes have been kept for ages. I have pieces in my closet that I've had for 5+ years. I refuse to let anything go, especially if it looks great on me.

Style Gypsy: Fashion & beauty must haves?

Ev'Yan: I must have a good pair of black tights on hand. I wear tights with cut-off shorts very often; I'm most comfortable in them. Also, I'm a sucker for flat shoes. I cannot walk in heels, even if I wanted to. Flats are more practical to me. I wear them constantly.

Style Gypsy: How do you stay beautiful?

Ev'Yan: I owe my clear skin to drinking a lot of water daily, & vegetarianism. Ever since I made the decision to be meat-free, I've seen (& felt) a significant change in my body. I think how you feel & look on the outside has everything to do with what you put inside your body.

Style Gypsy: Favorite beauty & hair care products?

Ev'Yan: I love Kerastase haircare; I use Bain Satin #3 Shampoo, & the Masquintense #3 Conditioner. I love mineral makeup, since I've never been fond of smothering my face with liquid foundation. Mineral makeup gives me enough coverage to leave me feeling confident, without my face feeling weighed down. I also love LUSH; not just because they have amazing smelling products, but because they are 100% natural, & do not test on animals. I especially love their bath bombs. I take baths religiously.

Style Gypsy: We love your beauty books..have you created more and do you create fashion scrapbooks as well?

Ev'Yan: I haven't worked on a beauty/fashion book in ages, but I've been playing around with the idea again. Since I don't read magazines, my beauty/fashion books have been a huge inspiration for me in the past, in a very personal way. While I love to express my creativity through clothing, I get most of my kicks from creating things like beauty books, or painting abstract pictures, or writing. When I create, I get in tuned with my likes & dislikes, which, in turn, helps develop my personal style. Creativity & imagination influences everything in my life.

Style Gypsy: What is it about fashion/style, that makes you love it so much?

Ev'Yan: It's an outward expression of who you really are, & what you stand for. It's a clear reflection of the music you listen to, the books you read, & the people that inspire you. If you look closely, you can tell so much about a person by what they choose to wear. For some people, clothes are just clothes. For others (& me), it's a bold personal statement, & one that they wish to share with the world.

Style Gypsy: How would you describe your style?

Absy: I'm striving for a closet full of handcrafted dresses made from lovely vintage fabric, but I mostly feel on top of my game when I'm in a mean pair of jeans.

Style Gypsy: What is your philosophy on fashion & beauty?

Absy: On fashion, we want to prioritize what's vintage and homemade or recycled as there is just so much STUFF in the world already. However new jeans or shiny new shoes will make us throw that philosophy out the window pretty easily.

Qooza: Yeah, I may or may not have bought a few new things on sale from Built by Wendy last week. But I'm gonna wear the hell out of them!!

Style Gypsy: What are some of your favorite stores & boutiques to shop?

We do so much online these days, we're huge Etsy and eBay hunters and find DIY/thrift bloggers like Liebemarlene and Sally Jane inspiring. We thrift every spare moment we have.

Absy: Every few days I sneak out of my office to snap up any new gems from the goldmine that is the Wayside Chapel (Kings Cross).

Qooza: I go gangbusters at the various Berlin flea markets - my favorite is my local Mauer Park Flea. I also miss Pretty Dog in Newtown, Sydney, that stocks my favorite Aus/NZ designers including Karen Walker and Lover. I usually walk out with one item of clothing I can't really afford whenever I go there.

Style Gypsy: Favorite fashion & beauty magazines and/or books?

Bam: We love Lula magazine, although it's super hard to find, so we prefer to stick to the ones we can find in our local libraries. Old designers books, dressmaking/tailoring/sewing books and vintage patterns collected from op shops provide a lot of inspiration. Oh and Blogs. So many great blogs.

Style Gypsy: Favorite pieces in your closet & clutch/handbag?

Absy: My homemade 50's flight attendant outfit with matching hat holds a special place in my heart. But lately I've not been leaving home without my harmonica.

Qooza: I'm going through my first real Winter, so at the moment I'm all about wool tights and beanies. I can never have enough!

These pieces are so fabulous to me, and with the perfect pair of sandals, they would make any spring or summer day not only super chic but super comfortable...perfect for the beach or window shopping walks in the City! Best of all the line is available to shop for what I consider to be quite reasonable prices(£50 - £62).This line really speaks to my style..comfortable, girly, vintage/bohemian inspired, and filled with color, textures and pattern!

Hi there everybody! I want to give a big thanks and send out huge hugs for all of you who have come by to leave a comment & to gypsify your style here at Style Gypsy during my first week up! It means so much to have your support, as it can feel quite lonely when launching a new blog..especially within such a saturated topic as fashion & beauty. I think the photography work of Sabine Pigalle is wonderful. Her use of light is fantastic and really brings out the work of the hair & makeup artists creations! I heart these photos, and I would love to have that gradient sea green ruffled dress hanging in my closet!

Anunciacao {sweet pieces}

While I am not in love with many of the pieces from the Anunciacao Summer 2009 collection, I am however inspired by these pieces below! I think they are super sweet and girly! Their headquarters or "factory" as it is entitled on their website is located in an old apartment building in Sao Paulo, Brasil...nice right. I mean who wouldn't want to leave home and come in to work in a sleek "home" inspired office with designer filled closets, red clay tiles, and rooms turned conference rooms complete with sparkling chandeliers!

These are some of my favorite picks from the Spring/Summer 09 Collection of the talented and classic Ossie Clark. The simplicity of the color combinations are fantastic, but most of all I LOVE the flowing dresses and the peep to shoes...oh my! They are absolutely gorgeous! If you like the style of Ossie and have a passion for vintage fashion, then you may want to check out the book: "Ossie Clark 1965-1974" by Judith Watt.

I have a terrible problem of my eyelashes being very weak! I yearn for a set of full, lush eyelashes, but it seems with the slightest rub my lashes tend to break. So, what to do you ask? Well, the best thing you could possibly do for your lashes is to condition condition condition! Conditioning your lashes with either a biotin based mascara during the day, & castor oil or olive oil at night, can help strengthen those lashes. Just as you would treat the hair on your head, your lashes need plenty of moisturizing as well. You may also try taking in more foods and vitamins that are high in Vitamin B as well. I have heard of some people using vaseline, but in my opinion that's much too greasy for me.

ymib: Whats your Style?
Alicia: It's a mixture of vintage and basics, a dash of what's current, and whatever I'm feeling at the moment. Overall, I wear what makes me happy and what I am intrigued by, and luckily that can range from one end of the spectrum to the other.

ymib: What is it about fashion, especially vintage styles, that makes you love it so much?
Alicia: Fashion, nay...style, is probably one of the purest forms of self expression for those who don't like to say too much. I think people have a better sense of who I am based on the way I dress than they would if I were to run down my life story and list of quirks. As for vintage, the thrill there is in knowing that your pieces aren't going to be on everyone's back. As much as I love F21, I really love my vintage because each piece is (more often than not) unique and possesses a different quality than garments made today.

ymib: Favorite shops & boutiques?
Alicia: Forever 21, ebay, Jet Rag (a vintage shop in L.A.) and Goodwill. Any place that requires me to actively hunt for something is good in my book.

ymib: Fashion & Beauty must haves?
Alicia: A good pair of jeans is an absolute non-negotiable in my world. That also goes for an interesting pair of shoes and a cardigan or jacket that you can throw on top of anything and look put-together. Beauty-wise, I can't live without C.O. Bigelow lip gloss. It's a small thing, but if I don't have it in my handbag, I am far from happy. Very far.

ymib: How do you stay beautiful?
Alicia: Shea butter (it's a godsend for my skin) and not taking life too seriously.

ymib: Favorite Beauty & Hair care products?
Alicia: Nars blush in Orgasm is the one makeup product that I probably will never give up. I also am a huge fan of Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner.

Enjoy our gypsified chat with Fashion Photographer Jamie Nelson! Her work is incredible and Jamie offers up some great insight into her days as a creative professional!

Style Gypsy: How would you describe the style of your photography or the elements that you tend to always make sure to include within your photos?

Jamie: My style has been described as a dramatic, glossy, vibrant, and surreal. I try to always include a strong graphic quality or strong color palette to each photo. I enjoy creating series, rather than just one photo. I try to do at-least 6 different shots of a model in one day and several makeup and hair changes in order to fully explore the model and the team's creative ability.

Style Gypsy: How do you know if you will work well with a stylist or designer?

Jamie: Personality is extremely important when choosing my team. If the stylist or designer is passionate and hard working, most likely things will run smoothly with the entire shoot and the other creatives on set.

Style Gypsy: Most memorable photo shoot thus far?

Jamie: One of my most memorable photoshoots was in the beginning of my career. Everything went wrong the day before and the day of the shoot. The car broke down and my art director and I were stranded on the highway pushing the car in heels and arrived on set filthy and without sleep just before the shoot. That was just the beginning to a disastrous series of events. The shoot came out amazingly well, despite the several mishaps and I was so happy that we didn't postpone or cancel.

Style Gypsy: What are 3 marketing or portfolio tips that you would give to an aspiring fashion photographer?

Jamie: Show your work to as many people as possible, be persistent, and don't give up. Don't get too sidetracked with earning money or assisting. Make sure you stick to the goal of becoming a photographer, even if you are starving and hardly making rent. Just keep shooting! It will pay off in the end.

Style Gypsy: What do you love most about what you do?

Jamie: I love collaborating with my team of creative women. They are all amazing at what they do. I love the spontaneous change of direction that occurs on the day of the shoot. Each and every shoot we do they manage to astound me with their capabilities and creativity. I also love traveling and being able to set my own schedule.

Style Gypsy: What are some of your favorite books, magazines, and resources for photography inspiration?

Jamie: I love Numero and Italian Vogue. As far as my inspiration for shoots goes, I like to draw on the energy from the collaboration between makeup, hair, stylist, art director, and model on the day of the shoot. I don't like to study or draw inspiration from other photography very often, as I would rather work purely with my own inner creativity and my own experiences, rather than have other photographers' imagery affect me.

Style Gypsy: Something new you would like to learn?

Jamie: I would like to explore different large scale fine art photography methods in the future. After making a name in the commercial world, I would like to concentrate more on exhibiting all over the world.

Style Gypsy: What are some of your current projects & do you have any stylists, models, or designers that you would love to work with in the future?

Jamie: I am currently working with my team on magazine editorials and cosmetic campaigns. There are so many companies and designers I would love to work with in the future- Marc Jacobs, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, M.A.C, Revlon, to name a few. I would also love to do editorials for Numero and Vogue in the near future.

Style Gypsy: What is the most challenging part of your work?

Jamie: It is most challenging for me to stop working. Photography is such a huge part of my life. It is extremely difficult, as my own boss, to tell myself that it is time to take a break. It is then difficult to be able to sustain relationships, as I am so absorbed in my work.
